This screensaver “will automatically log a user out after being idle for five minutes.” I could detail the sins of LogOutScreenSaver’s horseradish-bespattered designer. But rather, I think it’s best to instead list all the things I could purchase instead of the outrageous $150 “up to 10 user” license ($75 for a limited time!).

Rhon Fitzwater, we are certain your product is extremely cost-ineffective, and hereby present a 9.8.
Posted by ladd at April 28, 2003 11:58 PM | TrackBackDoing a quick and dirty currency conversion, this monstrous obscenity would cost $125 at its discount rate. That would buy four cartons of beer in Australia, which would certainly constitute much better value. Or half an hour with a lovely lady named Grace, who works the corner of ... Oops! I've let the tart out of the bag!
I think I'll save myself $75 (or $150) by using the microwave oven as a timer (I'll defrost some sausages for five minutes, and time's up when it beeps), and then just log out by myself. Now all I have to do is work out how to code a virtual microwave oven using that wonderful programming language Genuinely Fundamental. I wonder if it'll matter if I defrost mince instead of sausages. I think if I used popcorn, it might cause a kernel panic ...
[SFX: Sound of body hitting floor after falling off chair, and someone urinating in their pants while laughing through snot bubbles of glee.]
Posted by: aussie boy on April 29, 2003 12:46 AMThat gold leotard is AWESOME.
Posted by: fuddes on April 29, 2003 09:31 AMWell sure, the gold unitard is AWESOME, but it lacks the dynamic aspects that are shown by the ear-wax removing tool. Nothing screams good health like an animated GIF of a plastic scraper being dragged out of your ear canal.
Posted by: Shadime on April 29, 2003 10:41 AMSadly, the ear-wax-remover site doesn't address the question of whether the tool can be used to remove debris from other orifices.
Easier to just download ScriptSaver and use THEIR included "Log Out.scpt"...for free!
Posted by: Inspired on April 29, 2003 06:16 PMWhat about the types of "help" you could get from a hooker?
Posted by: Fidget on April 29, 2003 06:26 PMShe's a HOOKER?!?!?!?!?!? I thought I was doing well with her!

Posted by: JT on April 30, 2003 09:32 AMYou shouldn't laugh about belgian beers, they're stronger than you!
And i know what I'm talking about, as I'm belgian, I'm sourrounded by beers... They'll get me one day.
Posted by: Al Cool on April 30, 2003 07:43 PMI'll take a dozen...belgian beers, that is. They got chili peppers in 'em?
Posted by: Irving 143 on April 30, 2003 10:25 PMUmmm...it automatically logs you out and you lose all unsaved work?!? I can imagine it now, phone rings in the other room, it's the Pope, and he's got a question for me. We talk for a few minutes, I go back to my computer, and lo & behold, all my stuff is gone. And all it cost me was $ 150 for my less than 10 computers?
That's totally awesome!!!
I'm not sure what's more bent, the software or the pricing scheme.
Posted by: P Dawg on May 1, 2003 02:53 AMScreenshots: "Coming soon". LOL
Posted by: Rixster on May 2, 2003 02:41 PMAnd hey, maybe I'm missing something here, but logging out is like one frickin line of code in any language you choose.
And timing your logout? Duh, let's see: You get "ticked" 30 times a second by the screen saver engine, so you just check the time, and when 5 minutes have gone by you do the logout thingie. Wow. Rocket science. Definitely worth twice what Adobe Illustrator costs.
Or you could do it the R***b***c way and multiply 30 times 60 times 60 (and hey multiply it in *code* for best bloat effect) and count how many times the screen saver engine called your method.
Then plop the green cubes on the screen and say
"YOU'RE HAVE BEEN LOGEDD OUT BUY R***B***C"
The software is more complex then you make it out to be. Sure you can just log the user out with one line of code, but for example, if the computer has a logouthook script they want to be executed, it won't be with any other scripts/apps. My module will log you and and make sure the logoutscript gets executed the same way the system does it. It is very graceful in what it does.
Alsp the price is under $10 for a single user license!
Please post more comments, I will visit this site again soon.
Posted by: whois on August 22, 2003 09:42 PMThe pricing first of all is $9.99. And this software is very useful for lab environments, it was not developed for single user's, but it can be used. Version 2.0 adds a lot of features. Goto www.fitzwaterinc.com for more information.
