We’re happy to announce Where’s (ralph) Waldo (emerson) Week here at PvT.
And what does this mean for you, the lucky reader? It means, you dumbstruck dolt, that if you correctly identify all the allusions to Emerson contained in articles occuring over the next week, you will win an incredible prize. Naturally, being a member of the unwashed masses, and hence unblessed with my astonishing intuitive abilities, you have not yet guessed the nature of this obscenely fabulous prize. The prize is this: an article discussing you, the reader, providing revealing exposition of your numerous undesirable characteristics in the best way we know how.
The fine print
There will be no more than one allusion per article, although possibly less. This offer covers all articles posted between now, and the special end-of-contest article. The quantity of allusions has yet to be determined, but will be announced at the end of the contest. Allusions may include such things as quotes, paraphrases of quotes, obscure references to philosophies that relate to Transcendentalism, or lewd remarks about Henry David Thoreau. In the case of a tie, we will select the most suitable of choices by consulting our friend, chicken, and trusted advisor, Carl. Carl likes wit. If you feel that more than one allusion has been made, you will have to guess at the correct one. We are heartless in this regard. If nobody wins, we will write an article decrying our readership’s lack of education, and slavish adherence to dated Continential thought. Save your answers until the end, you despicable cad!

There is creative reading as well as creative writing.
Posted by: Simon on March 13, 2003 05:51 PMYou really hate your readers, don't you? Otherwise, the contest would be devoted to Monty Python.
Posted by: Catana on March 14, 2003 03:53 PMWe like to think of the comments area as a special reader-hatin' showcase.
