MyCoins 1.1

MyCoins is a marvelous thing. The universe practically cries out for a coin counting application suitable for the unwashed masses.

Many’s the time that I’ve exclaimed, “Gosh darn! It is just too hard to manage the devilishly tricky high finance that occurs between me and my piggybank. If only some sophisticated way of managing a collection of change existed…”

Well, I no longer have to wait. My quarters, dimes, “nickes”, and pennies can be safely inventoried, and precise management of my deposits and withdrawals is now possible. What’s the best is that it always confirms my desire to deposit money, making it extremely accurate for any transaction. Further, if I were a dirty canadian, I could rest easy, knowing that myCoins 1.1 SE for Canada is also available.

Thank you, Thelro! Since this marvel of modern technology is priced at a miserly $3 (20.59 Danish Krone), it earns you a 8.3.

Your width is messed up in IE6... Probably because you're using the 100% attribute.

"MyCoins is a marvelous thing. The universe practical cries out for a coin counting application..."
And PT practical cries out for a grammar checker who remembers that old "Lolly Lolly Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here" song from Schoolhouse Rock. :-) Seriously, this is a funny site... don't let it become the butt of jokes (how ironic would *that* be?) by hiring graduates of the Slashdot Scholl of Grammer and Speeling.

I suspect it's because of the CSS positioning for the L33t.com sponsorship image. On IE6, it appears on the upper right and pushes it slightly past the rest of the site, which is 100%.

Unfortunately, the glut of people with noncompliant browsers out there (of which IE6 is one) means that any layout either has to be very minimal XHTML or tabled to hell to look okay on most browsers.

I always underestimated the amount of small change I collected, giving me the opportunity to give a free round of drinks. But now with MyCoins 1.1 I'll never be surprised (or drunk) again. Excellent job in trying to make me the perfect working drone.

zach, Safari and Chimera are what the majority of Mac users use, and since this we are reviewing Mac software here, I wouldn't think too many IE Win users would be interested. You never know though. They might take pleasure in reading this kind of site.

Anyway, I've moved the 1337.com link so it should look better now.

You really think that "a majority of mac users" use Safari and Chimera? Not a chance. The majority certainly use browsers that have been bundled with the operating system for the last 5 years. I have no idea how many use Chimera, but I guarantee you that most of the people who downloaded Safari did it out of curiosity, not because they planned to switch to beta software for their normal surfing.

"not a chance", eh?

Well, apparently those wiley Mac users are proving you wrong, considering Mozilla variants and Safari outnumber IE (including Windows IE) 2:1 on this site.

So from the perversiontracker staff -- YOUR GUARANTEE IS WORTHLESS! YOU ARE SUCK!

I won't even consider this app until they release its sister application--myBills. I have a real need for something to help me count the money in my wallet. myBills would be perfect. Next time I'm at the store, I could whip out my Powerbook to see if I have the right amount of money in my wallet--before I commit to the purchase. Imagine, it will also help me select the correct combination of bills necessary to cover the purchase price!

Well, the smarter Mac users have migrated away from IE. It took a while for me to figure this out, too, but after viewing site after site that looked like sh*t on IE, I happened upon a suggestion to try out Chimera, downloaded it, and was amazed that all those 'broken' sites suddenly looked as good as they did on a Windows system. If webloggers continue to design standards-compliant sites, more web surfers like me will be spurred to download standards-compliant browsers, and that's a good thing! By catering to the Mac version of IE, we will only be delaying this process.

As a Canadian, I'm deeply offended by your comments... you dirty commie american!

Renders very nicely in Konqueror//linux. But that's only to be expected considering that's what Safari is built on :).

Too bad the comments for the Coins program have degenerated to an attack on IE. Come on - let's stay on topic here!

Information For The Clueless Militants: Some people read web sites from their places of work or school, which may or may not have the same kinds of computers people have at home and may or may not allow people to install their own software. Even when I brought my old iBook to work, I still sometimes used my Windows workstation to read web sites on a larger monitor (a.k.a. a "display") at higher resolution.

A Windows Browser Report: Jan, your 1337.com link looks fine under IE 6 for Windows, but the content is pushing off of the right side of the page, making it scroll. There is some extra space around your page in Opera 7; you need to add "padding: 0" (or "padding-left: 0", etc.) to your "body" style definition to suppress it (Opera ignores the "margin", etc. definitions for the body element). Everything seems to be fine under Mozilla 1.3a, though.

I tried to use myCoins 1.1 to read this web page, and it didn't work correctly. Will the expected myCoins 1.1.1 release fix the CSS problems?

For the record, I'm on Windows XP running IE 6.0. I found your site after reading an article on CNET's News.com. And I'll probably put a link from my boring little blog because your site is amusing, even with the tabling problem.

For you to suggest that it's just too bad for IE users is one of superiority at the same time being dumb. (No Mac/PC arguments here... if I had several thousand extra dollars lying around my fourth computer might be a Mac laptop.)

There are plenty of ways to code effectively and render code that shows up correctly on all browsers. To blame it on a lack of compliance by a browser that is used by 95% of the audience (at least on the non-computer-related site I work for) is sloppy, lazy and just blind smugness.

Granted, your site will probably mostly receive Mac users, but your humor is intelligent, your design simple and clean (width-problems not-withstanding) will bring back non-Mac users over and over again to see your latest witty description of dreck software.
